Éphémère Rosé by Jonathan Maunourys
Drawing on stellar winemaking experience, Jonathan Maunoury is among the Loire’s most exciting new artisanal talent. A chemist-turned-winemaker who has worked alongside some of France’s finest vignerons including Marc Angeli, Pierre Gonon, and Vouette et Sorbée’s Bertrand Gautherot, Jonathan took over 5 hectares of organic vines southwest of Saumur in 2017, converting the estate to biodynamics on his arrival.
Jonathan farms local varieties Cabernet Franc, Pineau d'Aunis, and Grolleau, as well as Chardonnay –a legacy of local Crémant production in the 1970s. He combines rigorous scientific know-how from his previous career with a low-intervention approach to craft deliciously vibrant wines bottled without fining or filtration. Undergoing extended ageing in both barrel and bottle for stability –a technique he learnt from Pierre Overnoy.
‘Éphémère’ shows a savoury edge from its brief period of barrel ageing, presents a faint blush of colour, while on the nose we get unripened strawberries, and melon, balanced perfectly with some herbaceous notes.
We welcome this newest addition to our wine selection with open arms as we approach the end of summer, it’s going to be in great company.
